Default Illegal Immigrants: Arizona Law May Hinge on Cooperation From Feds

Arizona's new illegal immigration law goes into effect on Thursday, but there's a problem. The state can't actually deport detainees. And the federal government, which does have that power, has suggested it may not use it.



On Thursday, Arizona is set to begin enforcing its controversial new immigration law, which threatens illegal immigrants with arrest and deportation if caught for routine infractions such as speeding.

There’s one issue, though: Arizona can’t deport illegal immigrants. And the federal government, which does have that power, has suggested it may not use it, reports Miriam Jordan in The Wall Street Journal.
