Default What You Need to Know Before You Leave the Office

Well, we’re coming to the end of what has been the singular busiest day in our three-plus years here at LB Central. What a perfect storm: Madoff, Ricci, Nacchio, Michael Jackson and a documentary about Hillary Clinton. As a result, there was plenty of stuff we didn’t have the chance to get to. For that reason, it’s time to go back to our old friend, the afternoon roundup:

O’Donnell Cleared: A federal judge in Los Angeles on Monday tossed out the most serious charges in an illegal campaign finance case against prominent Los Angeles attorney Pierce O’Donnell. U.S. District Judge S. James Otero ruled that prosecutors had improperly charged O’Donnell with two violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act. LAT

Jackson’s Mother Gets Custody: A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge issued a ruling this morning granting temporary guardianship of deceased singer Michael Jackson’s three children to his mother, Katherine Jackson, a court spokesman said. LAT

The DVR Lives On, For Now: Hollywood studios and television networks lost their bid Monday for the Supreme Court to block the use of a new digital video recorder system that could make it cheaper and easier for viewers to record shows and watch them when they want, without commercials. The justices declined to hear arguments on whether Cablevision Systems Corp.’s remote-storage DVR violates copyright laws. AP

DePaul Dean-Gate Heats Up: The Dean of the law school at DePaul was recently relieved of his duties. But the matter seems to be far from over. Above the Law
