Default The PM Roundup: Sonnenschein Goes Lockstep, More . . .

We dedicate this PM Roundup to all those New Yawk lawyers who desperately wanted to be outside on the nicest day of the year, but instead committed themselves to the task at hand: deposin’, draftin’, objectin’, judgin’ — nobly keeping the wheels of justice a-turnin’. Nicely done. What you may have missed:

Sonnenschein Goes Lockstep: Sonnenschein next month will cut associate salaries, and next year will more broadly revamp associate compensation toward a performance-based system. NLJ; ATL; Sonnenschein memo to associates.

Alleged Pirate Pleads Not Guilty: Philip Weinstein (not Ron Kuby), a lawyer for the Somali teenager brought to New York and charged with piracy said on Thursday that his client had been in virtual isolation since his arrival in a detention center about a month ago, locked in solitary confinement, and barred from calling his lawyers. Abduwali Abdukhadir Muse (pictured) entered a not-guilty plea on Thursday. NYT.

The Seventh Foreign-Born Justice? That would be Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm, were she selected by President Obama. The Canadian-born Granholm became a U.S. citizen in 1980. The last foreign-born justice — Felix Frankfurter, who was born in Austria in 1882. BLT Blog.

Our New 81 Year-old Role Model: This item has next to nothing to do with law, but we can only hope that when we’re 81 years old, we’re 1/10th as awesome as Bill Sommer. A must-read. NYT.
