AG Mukasey ‘Conscious, Conversant and Alert’ after Collapse

Blogs and Blackberrys came alive late last night with news that Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed while delivering a speech on national security to a gathering of the Federalist Society in D.C. Mukasey, 67, appeared to slur his words at about his 20 minutes into the talk and collapsed into the arms of several men at around 10:20 p.m. last night.

ukasey began to slur his words about half-way through the following paragraph, and collapsed at the end:

And I am hopeful that some time from now, after the next Administration has had the chance to review the decisions made and the legal advice provided, it will acknowledge that despite any policy differences, the national security lawyers in this Administration acted professionally and in good faith and that the country was safer as a result.

Mukasey, according to the WaPo, remained at the George Washington University Hospital overnight for observation but a Justice Department spokesman said Mukasey had strong vital signs and was “in good spirits” after the incident.
