Default Law Firm Life: The Costumes We Wear

With the witching hour fast approaching, we’re going to shut things down a bit early today and head off for some Halloween fun.
We hope you are, too, Dear Reader. But, then again, we understand that legal deadlines function without regard to the social demands of a Friday evening, let alone long- anticipated costume parties. So, if you are tethered to a box of documents, a purchase agreement, or just a Blackberry, the least we can do is provide you with a bit of humor along the way.

And for that, we turn to our friends at Bitter Lawyer, the Web site launched under the guidance of Rick Eid, a Manatt-partner-turned-TV-writer. The Bitter Lawyer team has created “Living the Dream,” a series of Webisodes about law firm life. As we’ve suggested before, fans of “The Office” might glimpse a little of John Krasinski’s Jim Halpert in John T. Woods’ Nick Conley (pictured). In the latest Webisode, Nick realizes he made his Halloween plans a bit too early.

For script notes on where Eid’s real-life inspiration for the skit came from, click here. And don’t forget to have some fun this weekend, even if a client decides the last minute that they want to “bump the purchase price $40 a share.”
