Default TriCipher Wins New Patent for Affirming Remote Users' Identities

TriCipher, the strong authentication company, won its newest key patent: the first automated multi-factor authentication tool for remote users -- eliminating the costly burden of smart cards and tokens.

This is the 19th patent for TriCipher, whose secure log-in solutions let companies quickly and securely vet the identity of any would-be user, anywhere.

The patent, U.S. number 7,386,720, was awarded because of TriCipher's unique approach to marrying the pervasive username and password combination into a single, strong and authenticated credential that absolutely confirms a user's identity -- without a third-party single-use device. This split key technology divides the credential between the user's system, an authorized portable device like a USB drive, and TriCipher's appliance.

Because it is so simple to use and fast to provision, early customers indicate that this new approach could accelerate secure adoption of digital signatures as an everyday business tool.

"How do we let people work remotely, and log in -- without compromising our security and IP?" said Kyle Austin, VP of Engineering at TriCipher. "That's the million-dollar security question. We're answering it with a solution that costs pennies per user."

The patent is embedded in ID Tool ToGo(TM), which authenticates remote users. Until now, enterprises that wanted this higher level of authorized security needed a third element for the security equation. This typically included smart cards or tokens, which need to be installed and maintained. ID Tool ToGo eliminates all of those costs.

TriCipher's flagship offering provides rock-solid identity assurance for businesses whose employees rely on critical Web-based applications. Its enterprise solutions, which are used by dozens of financial services and pharmaceutical companies, are optimized for any industry needing higher levels of certification to meet regulatory requirements.

About TriCipher

TriCipher, Inc. provides a unified authentication infrastructure to protect web and enterprise portals, the people that use them and the business process that flows through them against fraud and identity theft. The TriCipher Armored Credential System(TM) (TACS) is the first authentication system that enables companies to deploy and manage multiple types of credentials from a single infrastructure. Through this flexible "Authentication Ladder," TriCipher protects customer investment by adjusting authentication strength to defeat new threats and to meet regulatory changes without the need to implement a new infrastructure. Recently, TriCipher introduced myOneLogin(TM) the first secure on-demand offering that delivers strong authentication, single sign-on (SSO) convenience and the ability to seamlessly integrate multiple Software as a Service (SaaS) applications in a single solution.

Founded in 2000, TriCipher is headquartered in Los Gatos, Calif. The company is funded by ArrowPath Venture Capital, EPIC Ventures, Intel Capital, RBC Technology Ventures, and Trident Capital. For more information, visit TriCipher on the web at TriCipher Home | Multifactor Authentication.
