Default Hillary Rodham Clinton (Yale Law, ‘73) to Suspend Campaign

And then there was one . . . presidential candidate left with a JD. Hillary Clinton (Wellesley, ‘69; Yale law, ‘73), the second-term New York senator and former first lady will bring her 17-month quest for the White House to end on Saturday, according to reports. (WSJ, WaPo, NYT)

Shall we hold out hope for a lawyer-lawyer, party-unity ticket? Probably not, reports the WSJ’s Jackie Calmes. Despite the fact that a Clinton running-mate could help Obama win the support of women, blue-collar workers, seniors and white men — all groups that have dogged Obama thus far — the advantages might take a backseat to Hillary’s perceived baggage, such as the conflicts posed by Bill’s speaking engagements and global humanitarian work, and his unwillingness to release records of his business dealings and big donors to his presidential library.

As for Obama’s interest in Hillary, he muted speculation yesterday by announcing a three-member vice-presidential selection committee that will include, with the LB’s approval, a lawyer. Eric Holder, a deputy AG from the Clinton Administration and a current Covington partner, will be joined by Caroline Kennedy, who endorsed Obama four months ago, and James A. Johnson, who chaired Walter Mondale’s 1984 presidential campaign and led John Kerry’s vice presidential selection process in 2004. Johnson, who was the CEO of Fannie Mae for most of the 90’s, is currently the vice chairman of Perseus, a merchant bank and PE fund.

We know: That’s all well and good, but how bout Hillary’s bye-ku? To get your creative juices flowing, here are bye-kus for the last two lawyers to drop out of the race:

Giuliani:
Pony with one trick,
Don’t forget Nine Eleven,
Nine Eleven’s it.

Romney:
The data are in
After long consultation
The candidate’s out

OK, LB’ers, take it away!
