I moved into a duplex in July of 2006 and signed a year lease with the landlord. In November of 2006 my landlord sold the duplex and I now have a new landlord. The new landlord immediately notified me that she will be raising my rent and wants me to sign a new lease. Do I have to sign a new lease or does the one I originally signed remain in place until my year is up? I can't afford the rent increase, so if I refuse to sign the lease can she evict me and if so how long do I have.

The existing one is normally binding until it expires.
