my roommate is voluntarily going on active duty for the military. So i am stuck with the rent. I cant afford it by myself. My landloard is being a jerk about it and basically im stuck with the apartment until next august! I dont know what to do. I really would like to move out.

I'm afraid it isn't that easy. Your roommate can get out of the lease if he is called up to active duty (although I don't know if this applies to voluntary service). He might not be excused for a voluntary tour of duty. He'd have to check the law on the serviceman's act to see. Even if he is excused, unless you are his spouse or significant other, this does not apply to you. Your best route would be to find another roommate to take his place until your lease expires.
