Lightbulb 2 Renter's insurance Policies.... Good or Bad?

I currently changed my renter's and car insurance. My car insurance was at it's end date, so that was no problem, but now I have 2 Renter's INS policies, making the total 4 policies. I also insure my mom's home. Other than being ridiculously cheap, is there any benefit from having 2 policies? Is it even legally acceptable to have more than one policy?

Thank you in advance,
SIW9

I don't know what benefit 2 policies could be. They will, no doubt, fight amongst themselves to see who has to pay off if you should file a claim. This may be more trouble than its worth. I have experienced this when being covered by 2 health insurance policies. Even when told which is the primary insurer and which is secondary, they fight paying claims on the hope that the other will pay it. This results in the bills not being paid and the billing office being frustrated by the insurance companies.

I would contact the old company and cancel that insurance and ask for a refund of the balance on the account. Unless their coverage differs in what they will pay for, one insurer is enough.
