I am a current resident in Willowbrook Apartments (IL) that was taken over by new management in July. I inquired about a move to a 2 bedroom unit at the time of my renewal and was told there would not be a problem, when I was ready, I could let them know.
Once I inquired I was told I had to meet their rental criteria but they would waive the fees associated with the background/income check. At the time of my renewal I would have easily qualified for the 2 bedroom unit. Since then my employer shut down the local office and I am presently looking for new work and receiving unemployment. They told me I do not qualify because of my work status, and that there will be a $500 transfer fee if you do not move to a new unit AT THE TIME of a renewal. I took this information, which I needed to have at the time of renewal to the management's corporate office, and they agreed that management was negligent in providing me necessary information and have told me I can vacate when I want, just to let the office know. What I want, is the two bedroom unit, I qualified for at the time I renewed when I was told it would not be a problem to request it at any time. Do I have case against the management/owner? Any insight and information is greatly appreciated. |

I don't understand. If you are currently unemployed, why are you looking to move into a larger and more expensive unit? If you easily qualified at the time of your renewal, why didn't you submit all the necessary info for the 2 BD unit at that time? Why didn't you move into the 2 BD unit at that time? I understand that your circumstances have now changed, but why didn't you get the unit before the changes?

I was not given all the necessary and pertinent information in order to make that move at the time of my renewal. Management did not provide me the documentation or information so I could make the move at that time.
I am not concerned about my present state of income as I will certainly be able to find another job and should have no problem at all with an extra $100 a month in rent. |

What information or documentation did they fail to give you? Did you ask what you needed to do to move into another unit, knowing that your lease was about up?
At the least, I would get the information given to you by corporate management in writing. |
