Default My landlady and I both lost our jobs and she was forced to sell her house!

My landlady and I both lost our jobs and she was forced to sell her house. The man who sold the house got $27.000 of her equity and now we're being evicted because neither of has been able to find employment. We're both senior citizens. Does she have any recourse in getting her money back? He told her it was an investment but she isn't getting any "interest" on this investment. I believe he conned her out of the money due to her state of mind. She had four close family members die within less than a year (3 within 2 months of each other) and the death of her son really devastated her - he was crushed in a car accident and she hasn't been herself since it happened. Is there anything that can be done about this situation? Please reply soon as we're really desperate. Thank you.

Your friend should see a real estate attorney as soon as possible. This investor may be a swindler to steal the house and the equity from her. A lawyer could look at the contract and say if it was legal. If not, he could help her recover possession of the house and sell it to a legitimate buyer. Call one quickly.

Thank you for answering. Unfortunately neither of us has money for an attorney. I believe it was legal but wouldn't swear to it though. However, as desperate as we are I'm going to see if I can convince her to at least call one. Any attorneys willing to at least look at the contract for her please?

World Law's lawyers could also probably intervene and help resolve this if need be. You may email them on the home page.

Thank you. I did go to the home page and found that they want money to answer a question and quite frankly, we're both poor as dirt these days.

Since you are both senior citizens, I would report this as fraud on the elderly or abuse of the elderly. This will get adult protective services (and their attorneys) to look into this. Call a senior center and request information on how to get in touch with these services in your area. They can at least tell you if the sale was legal.

Thanks ever so much for all your replies. Unfortunately, she won't be 60 years of age until next March and by then I guess it will be too late.

You may want to contact legal aide or the fraud unit of the local police department and have this checked by them.
