I'm an international student in Canada, completing flying training. The people responsible for International-students at the flight school at the place took my scanned signatures (with my knowledge) and put it on a "housing and transport agreement" which they themselves typed at home, and is not a Ontario Tenants form.
Is the agreement legal (does a self-made document actually stand in the tribunal) or can i back out, as they're holding up a lot of MY money stating it as "contract".. They're even refusing to refund me the balance money.. |

This would depend on what their contract says. In the US, we can make our own leases or agreements and create our own forms, but they must agree with our local, state, and federal laws. As long as our own forms meet these laws, they do stand up in our courts. Here, there is not one standard type of lease for tenants or student housing. You could get a copy of the Ontario Tenants form and compare it. If you have time, look up the landlord-tenant statutes for your area of Canada (they may be included under real estate law). You may want to consult a tenant's rights advocate group in the nearest city to look over your contract and see if it conforms to your local law. (There should be one in Ontario.) Any local library could help you find these resources. You may need to consult an attorney to have them tell you if the contract you signed electronically conforms to Ontario law. Without seeing your exact contract and looking up Ontario law, I couldn't tell you from here if it is a legal form. I wish I could be of more help.
