Location is BC, Canada. We signed a 1-year contract that ends July 31st. The rental company is asking for the fee for breaking lease (1/2 month's rent) as well as July's rent. I understand that we are liable for the month of July if new tenant doesn't sign for it.
However, this means we would be paying 1 full year's worth of rent (as stipulated in the contract) AND have to pay for breaking the lease too! Is the law on their side for demanding a fee for breaking the lease? |

Re: For what reasons can a rental company demand lease break fee?
I don't understand this question.... If this guys wife picked up the lease would it be cheaper? What I'm asking is, in Canada, if someone has a lease for 2 yrs, and they cut out half way through, do they have to pay for the extra 1? And then on top of that pay OTHER fees? Why not rent from themselves? Or have people they know rent from them and foot the bill? My G-D, I have a real problem, why am I asking about Canadians???
