My roommate/domestic partner left on June 1st, left her keys, and took only a portion of her possessions. She left me a signed note saying "as far as the rest of my possessions, donate them, burn them, throw them away-whatever. I will make no attempt to come by here." Her things are still here, and are taking up very valuable space in a second bedroom that I could be renting out to another roommate. I do not have a forwarding address for her; the only way I could contact her would be at her place of employment, and I don't want to take any of this into her place of work, because she is a manager at a major retailer. Do I need to give her the opportunity, at this point, to get her belongings? Or can they be sold for the bill/rent money she owed when she left, since she left the note?(The note is addressed to me, signed with her full legal name, however she did not date it)The house is owned by my parents, so they are the landlords. She never had a written lease, only oral, and her rent was paid on a month to month basis, with the two of us splitting the mortgage payment to my folks. I live in the state of Florida. We want to avoid any legal costs if we can, and I don't want this to drag out any longer than it has already...it has been almost two months already. PLEASE HELP!!! Any advice would be great. Also, if I can get rid of the things, what do I do if she should eventually return for them? Do I call the sheriff or police and present them with said note or what?

She gave you possession of her share of the unit when she left you the keys. Additionally, she left you a written statement about what to do with anything left in the unit. Clear it out and re-rent if you wish. Just keep the statement to prove she said it.
