I rent a building for my business. By law there was supposed to be a Fire alarm system in the building. The Landlord never put it in. There was an electrical fire. I lost most of my equipment & business. I would have reopened if my insurance had come through before the building was ready for business again. The LL will not wait for my ins. I told them I will get my stuff out ASAP. When I went to get the rest of my equipment out( 1 week later), the locks were changed and some of my equip. was thrown in a heap outside. I called the LL and he said they are going to sue me for the remainder of the lease. They did not want to pay to install fire alarm but told Insurance Co there was one in the building. The landlords son is my Inurance agent and also caretaker of the building. Any Advice? Thank you!

That is insurance fraud. Let the insurer know and you could also seek damages for the failure to have alarms if that contributed to the damage.
