I have been living in an apartment with a male friend for 10 years we are both seniors in our 60's. The lease for 6 years now has my name on it as his last name but we are not married. If he would die can they put me out or let me stay. It is a 2 bedroom apt. I would want to move to a one bedroom but I am short on income qualification for that too.
As a long term tnant will they let me stay? I have no way to move anywhere else and no family. It is my first name and my real social security numbr but I used his last name and they think we are married. |

You should clarify that point with them now, or the fact you are not married could be an issue later.

If I tried to re apply on the lease I would be turned down and asked to leave because of poor credit, collection agencies after me and not eough rentl qualifying income avaible. They want $400 more a month for one person than what my social seurity check is, and it is my only source of any inome.
They would ask, or tell me to leave and I have no family or friends and no her to go and I would be homelss. My only chance is to stay here and not rock the boat. I have lived here many years now. About 10 yers in all, Last year it was bought and now there are new owners, new management that are very strict. I was told I could rmain here in the two bedroom myself if my so called husband died at a much higher rent on a month to month, now we have a one year lease. I need to move to a bedroom which would be $100 cheaper than the 2 bedroom if he dies. I could not afford the high rnt of 2 bedroom then. I cant move to another apartment some where else. I cannot pass a credit check or income qualification any where except in a real slum area with high crime. I have checked with senior services, rental agencies, etc and it would only be slum areas who dont do credit checks, etc. My social security is too high for me to get welfare and I need heat incled in my rent and all aplliances as I have none. Senior apartments charge double hat Ipay now and I am too young for a nursing home. I cant share an apartmnt as I dont get long with most people because I get sad a lot and cry lo and get on their nerves plus I need my privacy. |
