Default kansas landlord problem

We live in Kansas, and the state law states "the landlord must return the deposite within 30 days or, in the alternative, tender the remains of the deposit after repairs. Any such repairs must be documented on an itemized list of deposit deductions, failure to comply with these terms can reult in being sued for 150% of deposit in damages." Here is the thing, we moved out, turned in the key and everything looked great. A week later we are told that we "destroyed the house" then we get a letter in the mail that says all these things were broken, some of which were broken prior to move in but we don't have that documented. They refuse to show reciepts of repairs, or even say how much we are being charged for what repairs. They even sent us $85 of our deposit back even though they say they have not made any repairs yet? This is turning into a total nightmare and I was wondering if I had grounds to file suit?

You certainly do---Based on what you say here, you could file suit against him (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to his behavior...
