Exclamation Tenant problem in South Africa

Hi all,

I am posting from SA Cape Town, I hope you can help...

I recently cancelled my one-year lease because I quit my job. The lease allowed for such cancellation.

however, my landlord forced me to take responsibility of selling the fridge of this flat (otherwise it would be taken off my deposit...though nothing in the lease says so, of course!), and is still holding on to my deposit money "until she gets paid for the fridge"...

I am sure I'm being abused here, because my lease is very clear:no mention of fridge and associated delivery expenses.

From this deposit, the landlord is already deducting the difference between buying and selling price of firdge, as well as delivery and storage expenses.

i do not wish to give this landlord any more though, because it seems that the more i give, the more she wants!

any precious advise you can give me?

anyone knows where i can get free legal consultations in Cape Town?

thanks for ur answers.

An abused tennant.

Based on what you say here, you could file suit against him (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no lawyer...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to his behavior...
