wisconsin duplex sharing utilities
Is there a law in Wisconsin stating that all duplexes have to have seperate utilities per unit? We have an older upper/lower duplex that the upper has there own gas/electric bill (gas is only for her stove) and the downstairs unit has the main gas bill (which is split in haf with the upper unit when paid) and the electric bill (which includes water heater and stairway lights). The upper does pay $15.00/month for the water heater use. I just need to know if we can continue this way or if there is a law where everything has to be seperate.

Call your city building inspector and/or code compliance to confirm local rules. Normally separate meters are required.
