Confused tenant with depression, delusional or possibly schizophrenia

we have a tenant, who is renting the room in our house for last 3 months. When I worked in my basement at noon one day, he came up to me and said that he is trying to sleep and I had to stop as it was not the right time for him.
He sleeps in day and stays awake at night. I think he probably wakes up by 5:00 pm in the evening. He does not work and is home all day long. He has signed one year lease.

Before, he became tenant, we checked with the previous landlord, it was mentioned that he has been depressed in the past and has been institutionalized but there was no problem with him as tenant. I guess when some landlord would want to get rid of him, he would not go into detail as he wants him out of his home, but he did give the hint. We did not think too much about it as many people go through depression some time or the other.

For last two nights have been horrible for me. He takes showers at 4:00am and shower, laundry or kitchen is around our master bedroom and the noise at the night is so extensive when you are asleep. He cooks at that time with a lot of noice with pots and pans and not to forget, he sings while doing all that. Yesterday, he was doing laundry at 1:00 am. the washer was not bad but when he put the clothes in the dryer it was very noisy. I went out and shut the dryer and came back to my room. That instant, he went back to the laundry and started the dryer. I did not say anything because i donot want any conflict with him.

Today, I found out from the other housemate that he is delusional and probably pschizophreniac. He has been in institutions on and off and he is used to getting his way in institutions and he does not see the other's way. He is not harmful but he only thinks what he wants. I was thinking that I will ignore him so he forgets about disturbing us, but now considering his mental state, he may think of me as an enemy and harm in some way. Any people with the knowledge of scheziphrenia, would appreciate your input in this case.

I donot want to have conflict with him and want to be safe in my home. But if he continues, can we evict him. can we cancel the lease on that basis or we can cancel it on the basis that we want the place to ourselves and donot want to rent it out to anyone.

Please advise anyone!!!!

You can evict if his behavior and patterns interfere with your quiet use of the premises; he has to be reasonable and if he needed extreme arrangements or odd-hour access etc., he should have arranged that with you first.

He is harmless. He cannot see others' points of view. No matter how much you explain to him, he would seek his way only. Under the circumstances, you have to decide whether his off-hour habits disturb you to the extent that you have to evict him or be understanding and allow him to stay. That is your decision. He will not see your way. Just imagine yourself that you are looking at a 'bouquet of flowers' and everybody else around you insist that it's a 'bowl of fruits'! How would your mind react? bewildered, confused, angry - right? The same way, your tenant sees it differently than yours and gets bewildered, confused and angry if he is told otherwise. In the example above, you know you are right but in the tenant's cae, he THINKS he is right - as simple as that.
