Default Landlord problem

I moved out of my leased home. Landlord found scratches and a few gouges on walls from moving out that I missed during touch up. He has sent me a letter registered mail and has given me a timeframe to either repair or hire someone to repair. When I went to repair the things before the deadline, the landlord had already had them repaired and now wants me to pay contractor. Is this fair?

Yes it is. The time for you to do repairs is before you return the keys. After you return possession to the LL, he is permitted to hire someone to make the repairs and charge them to your deposit. In future, make all repairs before you return the keys.

was the deadline within your lease term still, or were you moved out already??

If he did give and agree a deadline even after move out you are entitled to rely on that agreement...

Re-read the post. "I moved out of my leased home. ... He has sent me a letter registered mail"

The tenant was already out of the home and into a new place before he was notified of the problems. He had already given possession back to the LL. Too late.
