Tenant's Items Left Behind

My husband and I have a rental home in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Our last renter's provided us with a 30 day notice and were to have moved out by July 1, 2009. However, when we went to see the house on July 5th after they had "moved out", there were still many items left in the house and the garage. Items include a couch, a TV, multiple chairs, tires, tools, etc. How long do we have to store these items before we can dispose of them?

The last time I spoke with them, I told them when we would be at the house to meet them so they could get their items and she said that she would call us to set up a time. I haven't heard back from them in 3 weeks. We have tried to contact them and their phones are all disconnected. They did not pay the last month's rent either.

Any advice would be helpful.

See NM Statute 47-8-34.1 to see how long you have to keep abandoned property.
