Renters' Liablility
I am one of four college students living in a house that is owned by the parents of one of the tenants. A personal friend of the homeowners' daughter left their car in the driveway for three days while the friend was out of town with only the agreement of the homeowners' daughter, and the car was vandalized. None of the tenants in the house claim responsibility, and the homeowners are attempting to force every tenant to increase the upcoming month's rent by one quarter of the cost of repair to the car. Is that legally a charge that can be passed on to us as tenants or is it the sole responsibility of the homeowners to cover that cost if they so choose?

The tenants are not responsible and need not pay. The car owner's insurance will have to cover it.
