Bed bugs! Can i break the lease?
I signed a lease on an apartment in NJ on May 1st. A few weeks ago, the tenant below me asked if i had bed bugs and showed me the welts on his body. I hadnt had even one bug at all in the time i'd been there so i said "no". He said he'd informed the landlord of the problem. So, fast forward to about a week and a half ago...The tenant below me moved out and i found a tick-like bug on the bathroom wall in my apartment....I had never seen a bed bug before and didnt even think about it, so i got rid of the bug. THEN it hit me and i looked up what they look like, and it WAS a bed bug. So i freaked out because now their "food source" downstairs was gone and they were obviously looking for a new one....ME! I called the landlord immediately and let him know and he said he'd have an exterminator in there within 3 days....In the meantime, i found about 4 more of these critters and saved them in a ziploc bag for them to see. Well, they came and sprayed, and after that, the same day, i found two more alive....I havent slept there since i found the first one and have only been there to shower and get ready for work. I just can't bring myself to sleep there again. Am i able to break my lease and get my security deposit back?

No you are not. Finding a bug the same does not mean much. Give it a week then if you still find more "live ones" contact landlord. You cannot breach lease if Landlord is making valid attempt to fix situation

Send the LL a written request to exterminate. You can't terminate if you haven't even asked for the LL to fix the problem.
