Default Cat urine

The owner of our property uses a realtor to let his property. When she showed us around she never mentioned any smells or odours and to be honest we there was so many plug in air freshners we hardly noticed either and put the strange smell down to the lavender plug in. She told us that the carpets had just been cleaned. That was five weeks ago, before we moved in we removed the AF thats when we noticed a strong smell of cat urine. We informed her and she then admitted to have noticing the smell. She has advised me to CLEAN IT. We have a cat in the property that she took a $300 non refundable pet fee for but we feel we should get half this back as we have had to live with this smell. We have also paid a $500 security deposit.

She arranged for the carpet to be cleaned however the cleaner advised us that if the urine is in the pad it will keep coming back up. Realtor then tried to say that if there is urine there other cats will urinate over the top, basically insinuating that our cat has done this. When we first noticed the smell I said to my husband "I bet they try and pin the blame on us" and it seems that is whats happening. Whats the chances of getting some of our pet fee back?

Default Re: Cat urine

You won't get anyt pet fee back at this time. BUt do document the place - with photos and written statements from impartial people (like a carpet cleaner) so that you can't be charged at move out for someone else's damages.
