You can ask but he is only required to give you the notice your state laws say

That reply is correct. If the poster will list his state, we can give him the state required amount of notice for his area.

The state is MA, sorry! Also, if it was agreed on 60 days, could the Landlord legally ask me for last two months rent instead of just last month?

You are required to pay rent for all time you occupy dwelling so yes. However you need only pay for each month as it comes not all at once. Example Feb rent is due Feb 1st but March is not due till March 1st.

I am assuming your LL wants you out? Has he given you notice to vacate yet? If not why do you think he will? If he wants you out and your at lease end or month to month he can legally only give you 30 days notice to leave

Hi, I am interested in renting a new apartment but they wil not offer me a lease which I woul perfer, only tenant at will. I asked if they could give me 60 days notice if asked to leave instead of 30. Im waiting to hear back and wanted to be prepared if they if ask me for 60 days rent instead of 30.

They cannot force you to pay two months rent upfront
