Default Broken oven: Can I withhold my rent until it is fixed?

My oven has been broken since I moved in, I found this out by having a gas technician come over. I filled out the move in/move out form when I moved in, but the landlord has done nothing. Can I withhold my rent until it is fixed? Or what can I do?

First off you cant just withold rent. Your state may not even allow that as option. You first send documentation to Landlord of issue. You should also look at your lease to see if its even Landlord's issue to fix. I am sure it is. You send repair request if need be send them certified mail. Keep any and all replies from landlord. You might also ask Gas co if your at risk. You should also either search your states Landlord/Tenant laws or call a Lawyer who works with Tenant/Landlord disputes

As sunlover has said, you need to do a written request for repairs on the oven. Mail it to your LL by certified mail, return receipt requested, and keep a copy for yourself. If the LL still doesn't make repairs, please list your state. You may have the right to have it repaired yourself and deduct the amount from the next rent and send him the receipt for the repairs. But you must first make the request. Not all states allow you to rent withhold or repair and deduct, so we need to know your state to tell you what is legal there.

And as sunlover said, you need to read your lease. Some leases make you responsible for the appliance repairs. The lease may state that they are left as a convenience to you and no repairs wil be made to them. That if you don't wish to use them, they can be stored and replaced with your own appliances. If this is the case, you can either have it repaired yourself at your own cost or buy your own.
