Default out of money out of time

I have a lease that expires June 30. I was laid off 3 months ago and have paid rent on time every month so far. But I am out of money - can't make December's rent and generally can't afford to stay in this house

AND I am here on an h1B work visa which requires me to leave the country within 3 months of not working with the visa sponsor.

Can I get out of this lease legally to the point that he can't sue for the remaining months? I am confident that just asking him nicely to consider my circumstances that he will not release me out of the goodness of his heart.
