locked out
I live in low income housing. And recently was arrested on the property. The night I was arrested they changed the locks on my apt. I haven't been served a eviction notice but, cannot return to my apt. Is this legal?

I'd say no. You live in low income housing - what does your lease say about a crime free area, crime clause, or other clause dealing with what you were arrested for? Was your arrest (for whatever) a violation of your lease? If so, expect an eviction notice shortly.
In the meantime, you should not be locked out. Go to the office and demand entry into your unit. It may be that they had to change the locks for safety or security reasons because someone else had your keys and they are holding a key for you there. (You don't know what happened after your arrest.) If someone else got your keys, they were protecting your possessions by securing them. They may just hand you the new key. If they won't let you in, call the police to gain entry. |
