I'm worried about upcoming asbestos removal activities in the basement of the first floor apartment I rent - how do I know it will be safe?

Asbestos removal is a well regulated indutry. The people removing the asbestos should be licensed specifically for this type of work. As long as the LL is using such a company, you have litlle to fear. As the LL who will be doing the removal.
BTW, where is the asbestos in the building, (yes, we know in the basement) but in what form? Insulation around pipes, asbestos tile on floor or around furnaces/boilers, etc? |

boilers and pipes associated with the boilers. Probably in old caulking, too, but I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about the friable asbestos.

Specifically ask the LL who will be doing the work and if they are licensed in asbestos removal. If they aren't, call the city building inspector.
