Unhappy When a former landlord unfairly discredits a tenant

A former landlord unfairly discredited my name and now that I'm a widow, I can't find an apartment that will take me because of the "language" on my credit report. I was given 30 days to vacate , but at the time of the eviction (a year after my spouse died) I was given only 1 day out of 30 days to come back. The landlord apparently took pictures, but when I made it back (about 23 days later) I cleaned up as much as possible within the 24hr limit. Many articles of property had to be left behind w/o choice, but the apt was cleaned and vaccumed, yet the "language" on my credit report still makes me declined for every apt. Why is this necessary? What can I do to clear this language, since the report was submitted before I got back to clean?

What "language" is on your credit report? Have you pulled your own credit report to see what it says. I urge you to contact the frre government credit reprt website which allows you to pull your credit report for free once per year. Pull this report and look for incorrect information. It maybe that your LL obtained a judgement against you after your eviction for the costs of unpaid rent, the attorney, court costs, cleaning charges, hauling off of belongings, storage fees for those items (in some areas a LL is allowed to charge you to store those items until they can be disposed of), and for advertising fees if you were still under a lease when you were evicted. These are all legal charges that can be your responsibility tom pay. If the judgement said these were your responsibility and you have not paid this money, the judgement will show up on your credit report as a bad debt (giving you a bad credit rating). Pull the credit report and let us know what you find on it (of course not giving identifying information).
