Can the owner of the home we lease to own, try and sell the home, when the lease is up on the written agreement, but on the same day also told us he would give us a extra year if we needed it. For a total of 4 years.

Your agreement expired, and you got a verbal extension? Did he give a written extension? All real estate contracts MUST be in writing. Verbal sales contracts are useless. If no written extension was given, your contract was up. He is free to sell the property to someone else. Why didn't you close on the property before the contract expired? Or get a written extension of the sales agreement?
