Anyone with help ideas?
My father is a narsiccist against whom I have had restraining orders before (2 years in my teens... the child services department supported a claim of abuse against him)... since I have been in my 20's, we have tried to repair the very damaged relationship. He alternates between bribes for affection and negative judgments about me and my boyfriend. When he offered space as tenants in a house he owns, I accepted and have been there along with 2 other roomates and my boyfriend for 8 months on a month to month lease. Recently, he has decided he hates my boyfriend and is trying to manipulate me into dropping him by threatening to have us both evicted and told us he wants us out by mid next month. Nice guy... Since I told him the law and that he had to give us at least 30 days notice, he has been out of control with his angry phone calls and e-mails and has made us all frightened that he will enter the apartment and cause some ruckus. He screams that it's his house and he can do whatever the &*#% he wants. I am going to court to get a temporary restraining order. Will they give me a hard time because it's his property? I (along with my boyfriend and one of the other tenants) plan on leaving within 2 months but have to find a place first. He scares us all. |

What state are you in? Some states allow the LL to give you less than 30 days to vacate. There are states that allow him to give you 7, 10, or even 15 days notice to get out.
Next, you should have no problem getting a restraining order against him as long as you can prove the threats. LLs are no different than anyone else. They have to follow the law. Start looking for a place ASAP. This is not a healthy relationship nor a good place to live. |
