Default Laws pertaining to tenancy in common

In the state of Iowa:

1. Would a tenant in common with a 50% share in a property have a right to charge rent to the other tenant in common, also with a 50% share in the property?

2. Can a tenant in common with a 50% share force the other tenant in common, also with a 50% share, to buy his share?

Default Re: Laws pertaining to tenancy in common

Duplicate post. Answered below. You cannot charge rent because the other has an ownership right in the property and has as much right as you to live there. You can charge for shared utilities and other costs not covered by rent/mortgage.
