I was one of four tenants but we were counted as one big tenant according to our landlords....? However they are saying they cant give us seperate checks of our security deposit, and they are bounded by the law. I havent seen anything that says otherwise...really need some professional advice about this...any proof that va law says they cant provide seperate checks?

You were one entity when you rented the unit and the deposit was counted together towards the obligations of that one entity. (All tenants were severally and indivduallly liable for the lease obligations.) It stands to reason then, that the deposit refund check must be made out to the same entity - to all 4 tenants on the lease. The same goes for a BF & GF renting together or a husband & wife. Why is that a problem? Seperate checks are not issued. How would management know which tenant caused which damage?
