roommate skipped out without paying rent
I had a roommate living with me who moved out one evening while I was gone and has not payed rent for this month. I found some personal property of hers while cleaning out the room that she forgot in her haste to leave. Can I legally sell these items to try to recoup some of my losses from her not paying the rent? We only had a verbal agreement. My home is in Tennessee.

Abandoned property statutes dictate that you store the property for 30 days in case the former tenant tries to retrieve those belongings. After that, follow your state law on disposal of the property.
