Exclamation Who's responsibility?

A few months ago I moved out of a house I had shared with one other girl because of a crime spree in the neighborhood and the landlord was not keeping up the property. When I first signed my lease the landlord had said that breaking the lease wouldn't be a problem if need be. But instead of breaking my lease, I agreed with my roommate to pay rent while she looked for a roommate. We then had a falling out and three months later has not found a roommate and I'm afraid she will not get one just to make me pay. Is there anyway out of this? If I break my lease does that automatically break her lease too? Is it the landlord's job to find a sublet if I break my lease? Since it was a verbal contract is it applicable? I don't want to screw my roommate over but I can't pay the entire rest of the year. Thank you very much.

Default Re: Who's responsibility?

Yo are still responsible to the landlord unless he agrees you could leave. She has to reasonably try to re-rent and if she does not then you need not pay her any longer.
