Default Freeloading brother in my mother's house that I own

My mother had her home put in my name several years ago. This was done so she wouldn't have any collateral to put up if my deadbead brother needed her to post bond. Fast forward 5 years. He is now living with her. He claims this is his "home", threatens my sister when she visits my mother. He gets free room and board and possibly takes money for drugs. My sister and I are concerned for my mother's safety. My mother is in denial and will hear no ill said of my brother. Can I have him evicted? I live in SC, but the house is in GA.

Thank you,

Audrey

You'll have a hard time evicting him if the proper occupant, your mother, allows him to live there. Your best bet is to contact a senior advocacy group (call a senior center near her) and explain the situation. Perhaps someone could be appointed to watch her affairs and keep what money she has safe. If she were to leave the home (for a nursing home or to live with you), you would be able to give the brother a 30 or 60 day notice (depending on the state law) to vacate as the owner and then evict him if he failed to leave.
