Confused what is the deal

This question relates to apartment renting.
I needed a guarantor to rent my apartment which was my father. The broker has his information and has okay'd the deal. I have signed a lease and payed all upfront fees including the broker fee. The lease says that the apartment is mine as of 5/22/2008 but the broker has not given me the keys. They are waiting to get a signature from my father on the guarantor form. Is this legal for them to do? Where I have already paid the fees and rent and signed the lease I feel I should have the keys to my apartment. Am I in the right?
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Default Re: what is the deal

Sorry, Darren, but they told you that you needed a guarantor to obtain the unit. Something in your file says you don't qualify for the unit on your own. Until they get the guarantor to sign off that he'll be responsible if you don't pay, you're not qualified for the unit and cannot rent it. I suggest you get him to sign off or you may be denied the unit altogether. If this happens, your money will be refunded and the agreement cancelled. You were told from the start that you could not have the unit without a guarantor. This is standard procedure for a applicant who isn't qualified according to the screening criteria of the management. You won't get the keys until the guarantor signs. I would do the same thing. Sorry.
