Angry Apartment parking issue

My friend rents and apartment that has parking spaces for each unit. There is no parking signs along the street in front of the apartments. The apartment units are numbered with numbers but the parking spaces are numbered with letters. My friend does not own a vehicle any more but pays the same rent as the other tenants that do. I parked in one of the spaces while waiting for him to shower and dress and while I was waiting they tried to have my car towed. We were charged $80.00 to leave my car with me. I know that other cars have been towed as well. One had a sign in it that said it was a rental car and belonged to apartment number ##. But it was towed anyway and I heard it was over $300.00 to get it back.

Does the tenant have any rights in this case? It seems to me that the parking spaces should be numbered the same as the apartment it goes with and the only time any car should be towed is if the tenant does'nt recognize who the car belongs to and the tenant himself complains. Is there anything we can do?

Your friend has every to park a car there. But your friend no longer has a car. Since you don't rent from this complex and don't pay for that space, you have no right to park there. Your friend cannot assign his space to someone else unless he registers another car with management. No unregistered cars should be parked in rented spaces. Since these spaces aren't specifically assigned to anyone, management is responsible for towing unregistered cars. Sorry, but you shouldn't have parked there.

That post should read:
Your friend has every RIGHT to park a car there.

Sorry about the omission.
