Hi.
My girlfriend lost her job in Company A (worked there for more than a year). Almost immediately she got the job in Company B (law firm). She worked there for a couple of weeks and got fired, the reason was given - low performance, but she believes there were personal reasons. When applying for unemployment benefits, she was told that since she worked for Company B less then a month, she is going to receive unemployment from Company A and she doesn’t need to give any reasons why she was fired form Company B. Few month later she received a letter saying that Company B filed an appeal for her unemployment benefits. Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board told her that Company B doesn’t pay a penny of here unemployment insurance and they never heard of such case (company doesn’t pay unemployment and still appeals for it). Basically it means, her former employer Company B (he's a layer) doing it for fun? My question is what my girlfriend supposes to say in court? In a normal scenario she would have to prove her right to receive unemployment benefits form her former employer but if I understand correctly he doesn't have anything to do with her benefits?.. We're in California. Any help greatly appreciated. |

Maybe you two should call him and ask why firm B is involved--they may not understand the situation correctly.
But in any case she should simply be prepared to tell her story and explain what happened. Have a good outline ready and summarize briefly. |
