Confused mandatory meeting woes

Yesterday I was informed of a "mandatory" training session from "which no one will be excused'. This training is to be held on a Saturday two weeks from now. Due to my religious observation of the Sabbath, I have notified my employer that I will not be present at this training session. I have asked for accomodation in this matter such as training in the evening after work or on a Sunday. I have heard nothing. I spoke to my manager today and was told that she was "waiting to hear what is going to happen to those people who will not attend." Does my employer have a right to terminate my employment or to "write me up" based on this decision? What rights do I have in this matter? I have a very uneasy feeling at work and am concerned about my continued employment.

Also, are there any laws governing such a request of employees who do not share my religious beliefs? Some employees had travel plans (airline tickets, bus tickets, family in town) and they are being told that they must be at the training or face disciplinary action and even termination. Can an employer demand an employee be present at such "mandatory" training that takes place outside of an employees normal work week?

Help please...

Default Re: mandatory meeting woes

It has to be very good reason and they normally must accommodate you reasonably; if they do not, consult your nearest Dept of Labor office and they will help direct you and/or intervene with the company.
