My husband died suddenly on Dec. 23, 2007,(a Sunday). He was an employee of Raytheon, but had been out on disability for approx 23 yrs due to 2 strokes caused by Malignant Migraines which were partially "work related" according to his doctors at the time.
I notified Raytheon of his death on Dec. 24th, 2007,( Monday). I have been in contact with them almost daily since that date. As of today, Jan. 17th, 2008 I have been unable to get any information from them re: his benefits-he is supposed to have some pension benefits, life insurance and a 401k plan. The supposed "Benefit Specialist" assigned to me has not been forthcoming with any information but I had been told via 1 letter, dated 12/24/2007,that I would be sent "details about these benefits in a separate letter to be mailed approximately 2 weeks from the date on this letter"(12/24/2007). In the meantime, my son and I have had to cover the burial expenses out of our own funds which are extremely limited. Of course, Raytheon is extremely unconcerned about any financial difficulties we are having. I spoke with a Benefits representative today to let him know that I had not received the letter, which supposedly was mailed on Friday, Jan.12th, 2008. At that time he "discovered" that the letter was sent regular mail to an address which was over 9 years old. I have given them the correct address every time that I have spoken with then since 12/24/2007. Now, that letter is probably being returned as "undeliverable" because of the incorrect address that they used. This gentleman stated that he would have another letter sent to the correct address, probably via regular mail. I requested that, since it has been over 3 weeks since I first spoke with them, could they please at least send it via Priority Mail. He stated that he did not think so and would not varify that it could or would be done. So I am now looking at another week of waiting, as our current funds are rapidly dwindeling, with little hope for any information re: the benefits that we may or may not receive whenever Raytheon "gets around to it"! I am at a loss as to what, if any, recourse I have to get the information that we so desparately need. Can you help us? |

You may want to have a benefits lawyer intervene to check the status and move them forward. The cost should not be too high and it may cause the company to move. Or you could even sue in small claims for the first payments due if need be.
Calling several times a day also helps in some cases. |
