Hello,
I just received a letter from the Florida's Unemployment office stating that I was overpaid in my unemployment benefits by $868.00. They are giving me an opportunity to make a claimants statement before they make a decision on my consequeces of this fraud. The reason behind me not reporting those earnings were because this was a temporary part time 5 week position and I only thought I had to report a permannet long term job compensation. Please help with any tips or requirements that I need to include in my statement that may help with them no charging me with a 3rd degree felony. Thank you |

I realize this is an old thread... it's obvious...your screwed,,, you are required to read the rules when accepting unemployment. "report any work", "report any earnings" this is the standard question each time you claim a week of benefits....
if this is your first time ever recieving benefits, you might be in luck to plea stupidity, ignorance and be very, very very sorry.... you may get off with only having to pay back overage before they will continue your benefit. other than that,,, yes, that is definitely fraud. good luck |

Overpayments are a huge problem in the unemployment insurance system today. Many unemployed people are now facing this trouble. People that are legally entitled to unemployment benefits should be able to get them and those that aren't, shall not. However, that didn't imply that the $14 billion in unemployment benefit overpayments were going to be returned right away last year.
