Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has agreed to pay US$40 million to 87,500 Massachusetts employees who claimed the retailer denied them rest and meals breaks, manipulated time cards and refused to pay overtime, according to court documents filed Wednesday.
The settlement -- believed to be one of the largest of its kind in the state -- seeks to resolve a class-action lawsuit filed in 2001. It comes less than three months after the world's largest retailer reached a deal with state prosecutors to pay $3 million to settle complaints that it didn't give its Massachusetts workers proper meal breaks. An affidavit filed Wednesday by plaintiffs attorney Philip Gordon says people who worked for Wal-Mart between August 1995 and this year will receive payments of between $400 and $2,500, depending upon their years of service. Do all Massachusetts employees receive this payment if they worked between those dates? I never received any letter about an ongoing lawsuit so I never filed a complaint. I had no idea this lawsuit was going on until the settlement was reached. Are there steps I must take to receive my settlement money?

I would like to know as well; I worked for Wal-Mart in Massachusetts for just over 4 years. It would be fantastic to know I have some money coming to me, but I can't recall anything about filing a claim into the lawsuit.

You normally should be automatically notified of your payment. If you have never been notified of the case etc. contact the offices of the lawyers involved. |

I stopped working for walmart 7 years ago (and my husband stopped 10 years ago), we both received notification via mail that we had to sign and return, if you didn't get one, either you or your store didn't qualify...or you moved/changed your address from when you worked for the company
