Chasing money owed for 6 months

I wanted to make an enquiry about what i can do with regard to a payment i am owed from my employer.

I am from the UK but in december last year i started working for a cruise line in america, shortly after starting i ended rushed to hospital for surgery. in febuary i restarted work but the company has only made 2 of the 3 sick payments i am owed (the first payment being missing). i have contacted them nearly ever week and they just keep copying on emails they send to another company asking them to trace the payment and reissue it, this has now been going on for 6 months and i have still not received the payment.

Is there anything i can do?

Very sorry for all you're been through here. Three thoughts come to mind. First, I would make inquiries at your consulate and see if they can be of any assistance (this is not terribly likely, though). Secondly -- and this would also be without charge -- contact the labor and employment agency of the state in which the cruise line is based. Each state has wage and hour laws and you can file a complaint -- usually online. You can find the appropriate agency through a simple Internet search. If these fail, you will be looking at filing suit and would want to speak with a labor and employment lawyer. If you go to their main page, you could get a referral from WLD for counsel either in the UK or where you are in the US. They have counsel literally all over the globe. Hope it works out for you. AJJ
