Default Sick days in Ontario, Canada

In my workplace the management have put into place "performance based shift bids", meaning that each month an employee can have a radically different shift based on how well they score. One of the categories is "attendance". If you have unplanned absences it counts against you.

In Ontario, Canada are employees not entitled to a certain amount of sick days or emergency days without consequence? I believe it is 10. Would scoring someone down in a way that would negatively impact their desire for a certain shift due to an unplanned absence not be looked at as a consequence? Is this legal?

There are people with children who need to plan ahead for child care who are negatively impacted by this change.

Also, I was made to sign a "letter of expectation" advising me that I was being given a warning that I had missed 5 days in a 6 month period. Is that legal?

Please advise.

Thank you.
