Default Providing Information to a 3rd Party

If an employer provides information to a 3rd party regarding status of a medical leave is that illeagal? My employer advised a mortgage company I was on a medical leave when they called to verify employment. The loan was denied. The mortage company stated if the employer would have just stated "yes" I was currently an employee with the company, the loan would have been funded. As a result I will loose my home. Do I have an recourse?

Informing them you are on leave is not illegal assuming you are going back when done.

They cannot give any specifics about your condition and the like without your permission.
