Angry Former Employer's Vindictive Advertising

My husband's former employer is bitter about his leaving. They are running ads in local newspapers, referring to my husband - using his name- and asking customers who bought through my husband to come buy from the owners directly. The former employer also has a website that lists employees - they use my husband's name as a sales specialist- yet when you click on it to email him, the email address is the owner's personal email. Is this legal? It seems they're trying to profit with his name.
